Panama City Tour
Panama Viejo ("Old Panama"), founded in 1519, was the first European city established on the Pacific Coast of the Americas and was Pizarro’s staging area for his attack on the Incas. Destroyed by the gold-seeking English pirate Henry Morgan in the late 1600s, the city was rebuilt a few years later on a more defensible peninsula and Casco Viejo ("Old Crown") was born. The modern, cosmopolitan areas of Panama City add yet a third dimension to this history-steeped city.
Architectural structures in various states of repair survive from Panama City’s turbulent past and offer afternoons of sightseeing among old brick, iron grillwork, and Baroque facades.
Coexisting with the gleaming skyscrapers ,Panama City owes much of its cosmopolitan and international flavor to the Panama Canal, the giant ditch that brings the world to the isthmus.
We recommend: Casual clothing and comfortable shoes, as well as a camera.
